Re: Which Grocery Stores are Best in Las Vegas?
I voted for everything but Crap4Less. And i dont' leech off of others.
Trader Joes/ Whole Foods/ Wild Oats/ are all much better than the supermarkets.
Smiths has great deals week to week.
Albertsons takes all other supermarket and drugstore coupons, so that helps you save more.
Vons has some good prices now and then. Some of their stores suck tho, so choose wisely.
Costco has some great deals you can't find anywhere else. And their produce cannot compare with regular supermarkets. Plus they have those oh so cozy chenille throws to curl up in while watching their big tv's.
Walmart has some really good deals, but skip their produce. I don't know why, but their veggies are overpriced, their avocados are always stringy,(yuck) and their bananas go bad the very next day.

I love Trader Joes, but their selection is limited. I buy things like cheese there, and some produce like fresh figs when they are in season, and heirloom tomatoes. Whole foods is way too expensive for me, and their organic produce has bugs. Fresh meats and seafood there is twice what it costs elsewhere.

Best for milk and dairy. I shop there sometimes, but I think the produce is overpriced.

Best seafood of any supermarket chain. Produce seems good and is often on sale.

I quit Vons ever since they stopped doubling coupons. Also unlike other chains they play funny games with prices. They do sales like 2/$3.00, but if you buy one it might cost you $2.80. The first one rings up at $2.80 and the second one rings up as $0.20. It's a scam if you forget to count right. Smiths charges $1.50 for each.

Best place for paper goods. Lettuce, breads, cakes, frozen precooked foods. The produce is spotty unless you happen to need a case of oranges. Also Bananas are green, but always a good price.

I like some of Walmart's produce. Tree fruits - apples and pears. Their lettuce and salads are not great.
The best thing about Walmart is that if you bring your store ads they will honor many of the sales of other stores. For example if you have a food4less ad that says 10 avocados for $1 they will usually honor it.

Haas avocados are the only ones that are not real stringy. This is a seasonal thing too.

I have not noticed that. Also Walmart is a good place to buy sliced deli meats. Way cheaper than other stores if you have the time to wait. They are not real fast there, but oh well.

Re: Which Grocery Stores are Best in Las Vegas?
I should have clairified for the things i buy, which aren't necessarily the things others buy. I skip meats, milk and buy very little dairy once in awhile.
So for the things i buy, and for the best prices of the things i buy, my favorite stores in order are:
Trader Joes
Wild Oats
Walmart neighborhood
Costco
Smiths
Albertsons
Costco
Vons
The best avocados are at Costco. You get 6 big ones in a bag for about $5. To me thats a great deal because the regular supermarkets will charge me $3 for just one. That sucks.

Re: Which Grocery Stores are Best in Las Vegas?
Trader Joes buys low end products and just puts their name on them. Whole Foods does not adhere to the strict organic culture. Some of their so -called organic food comes from Mexico. Since the Mexican farmers use human feces for fertilizer, you may want to reconsider.

Re: Which Grocery Stores are Best in Las Vegas?
We really like Smiths and Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market, both are close with multiple locations and have fairly good prices, occasionally we shop at Trader Joes, Vons, or Whole Foods when we need something special. Sams and Costco when we need something in bulk or want free samples, lol. We never go to Albertsons or Lucky because we don't like the way its laid out and theres no locations really close to us.

Re: Which Grocery Stores are Best in Las Vegas?
well, Lucky was bought by Albertsons and converted to Albertsons, when Albertsons was bought by SuperValu, they converted some back to Lucky in the mainly-Hispanic areas. There are two locations in Las Vegas, Eastern and Bonanza and Lake Mead near Civic Center.

I doubt that. Post a link. lol. Given that the recent outbreaks of E. Coli and Salmonella were grown in California I think all produce is suspect. So far the Mexican produce has not been implicated in any outbreaks.

Re: Which Grocery Stores are Best in Las Vegas?
We also used to shop at Lucky and the old Albertsons locations (before the merger) all the time, because they both had great locations near where we would live. But, now all the former Albertsons are now Food4Less or Smith's, so that is where we shop because they are more convenient.

Re: Which Grocery Stores are Best in Las Vegas?
I shop at Food4Less for my staples (Bread, milk, eggs, coffee, etc). I then usually go to Albertson's for my produce and deli.. much better quality.

Re: Which Grocery Stores are Best in Las Vegas?
The stores i miss are the Raleys. They closed up and left town a couple of years ago and converted to Smiths. They always had good prices and a convenient location to walk to. They were cheaper than Smiths, and had a better selection of the things i buy most.

Re: Which Grocery Stores are Best in Las Vegas?
I just noticed they had yams 3# for 99cents at Mariannas. I eat those things for dinner quite a bit. I overpaid for 4 of them at wild oats earlier. I just didn't want to stop at another store and so paid way too much so theyd better be good! lol
I'll check out that store sometime. I hear good things about it. But i always thought they only spoke spanish there?

I went to Mariana's the first time today, great prices for everything, and their bakery and meats looked very good. Their produce also looked very good.

I have been meaning to check them out. I've noticed the one at Valley View and Sahara near Comp USA. I use a lot of chili and cilantro. I assume they would be a good place for those items.
Speaking of Mexican food, the a couple of weeks ago when I went to Costco they had pre-packaged uncooked flour tortillas in the fridge. They are very easy and tasty. There's about two dozen in two plastic bags per container. You cook as many as you need on a dry frying pan. They are really good.

Re: Which Grocery Stores are Best in Las Vegas?
Make sure to check the flour tortilla ingredients. Many have lots of chemicals. Marianna's has fresh ones that they made.
I went there today to buy Granny Smith apples, key limes & squashes.
Also went to the Asian grocer (Diho supermarket, 3459 S Jones) to buy bean curds, frozen dumplings, vegetables & some Asian cookies.

Re: Which Grocery Stores are Best in Las Vegas?
I am a price shopper, many mouths to feed on a budget, so I prefer Food-4-Less. Selection is limited, if you are a shopper for certain brands or specialty foods, but they get the same produce as Smiths and just don't spend as much time dressing it up. Bag your own groceries and save 20% or more. I like having my groceries bagged, but not for a lot more money. We shop International Marketplace on Decatur and Trop and Chinatown for specialty items.
