Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee tells Newsmax that some of his fellow Republicans are calling him a RINO for defending President Barack Obama against personal criticism.

“So be it. It is total hypocrisy for us [Republicans] to rail at the way Bush was treated, and then do the exact same thing. It's disgusting,” Huckabee said of those who have labeled him as Republican in Name Only. “I care about issues and will fight on those, but just because someone doesn't think like me doesn't mean that he or she hates America.”

Speaking at a meeting of the Hudson Union Society to discuss his forthcoming book, "A Simple Christmas," Huckabee railed at those who had derided the president’s stopover at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware in October as “just a cheap photo op."

“No, I think it was the commander in chief of our military paying respect to a dead soldier,” Huckabee said. “I'm grateful that he did that, and I was proud of him for doing that. And I think we all –– as Americans –– should give him credit for that."

Senate Democrats' health care bill would create a new marriage penalty by imposing a tax on individuals who make $200,000 annually but hitting married couples making just $50,000 more.

That's one of 17 new taxes imposed by the bill, which also creates a levy on elective plastic surgery - some call it "botax" - and places a 40 percent excise tax on those who have generous health care plans.

"If you have insurance, you get taxed. If you don't have insurance, you get taxed. If you need a life-saving medical device, you get taxed. If you need prescription medicines, you get taxed," said Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Kentucky Republican, who is leading the fight against the bill.

By Jeff Scialabba

In his speech before Congress in early September, Obama noted that “more and more Americans worry that if you move, lose your job, or change your job, you'll lose your health insurance too,” and that “buying insurance on your own costs you three times as much as the coverage you get from your employer.” The obvious implication is that government must do something.

But missing from the speech were answers to the following questions: Why is individual insurance so pricey? And why are so many Americans--over half the population, including more than 90 percent of the privately insured--chained to their employer for health insurance?

The answers implicate government. Government policy has favored employer-based insurance through tax breaks dating back to WWII. Together with coercive labor laws arm-twisting companies into providing health benefits, these substantial tax breaks, which have never been extended to individuals purchasing insurance on their own, have distorted the health-insurance market. Employer-based plans now outnumber more limited and more expensive individual plans 10 to 1.

Obama also decries “the problem of rising costs,” which is crippling businesses and pushing the federal deficit to stratospheric highs. But again, he fails to identify the real factors at work.

Health insurance in America is typically comprehensive, intended to cover almost any medical expense, including routine care. This would be like using car insurance to pay for tune-ups and oil changes, and history has shown that this model increases (marginal) demand for medical services. But government interventions have favored the comprehensive model for decades, beginning in the 1930s with the granting of nonprofit status to Blue Cross and Blue Shield, which pioneered the model. Comprehensive coverage was further entrenched by Medicare and Medicaid in the 1960s, as well as by the imposition of more than 2,100 federal and state mandates dictating who insurers must cover and what services they must pay for.

As a result of these distortions, 95 percent of insured Americans--some 240 million of us--have comprehensive insurance paid for by a third party, either our employer or the government. As consumers of medical services we are cut off from their costs. When we go to the doctor, we don’t even see the price until it shows up on the invoice--with all but a small co-pay or deductible (relative to the total bill) paid by our insurance. When the cost to patients is low, we view any test or treatment as “necessary” no matter how minor the benefits. This apparent free lunch has led to the exploding spending we see today.

Because Obama fails to grasp the cause of our problems, his proposed solutions will fare as badly as every previous “reform.”

Past attempts to limit the expenditures of Medicare and Medicaid by lowering reimbursements to physicians and hospitals, for instance, have left medical providers loath to take on new Medicare and Medicaid patients and forced them to make up the losses by raising prices on private consumers. These “cost-cutting” measures have also done little to stop the hemorrhagic spending--Medicare alone is expected to consume nearly 50 percent of all federal income tax revenue by 2040.

Similarly, the use of mandates to increase coverage has had disastrous results. While state mandates have benefited special interest groups, they’ve raised the cost of basic coverage an estimated 20 to 50 percent. Moreover, in order to prevent the skirting of state mandates, federal law prohibits insurance companies from offering plans across state lines--effectively banning competition and prohibiting market forces from driving prices downward.

No honest observer of our health-care system could deny it is in need of reform. But the basic question is: Have existing government interventions proved positive? Obama and his supporters on both the left and the right answer “yes”--but the facts say otherwise. Rather than trying to expand government control over health care--as Obama would do--we should be working to eliminate it.

I can understand how some would think that some of the recent Officers deaths are an "occupational hazard" and, could never happen to them because they aren't in harms way. This is VERY different. At this point, still very early in the investigation, it appears that the perps. picked this off-duty Officer to rob at random and, had he not chosen to fight heroically, quite possibly, terrorize or worse his family. This could have been ANY one of us, no matter how "good" we think our neighborhood is. I hope that this tragedy serves as a "wake-up call" for ALL of us to be more aware of our surroundings and, in particular, who is following us home or lurking in our neighborhoods. Criminals such as these specifically look for those who appear to be unaware and are probably easy targets. These savages (most descriptive word I can think of without violating the rules of this board) think of us ONLY as prey. I also hope that our D.A. will now be more understanding of citizens who use deadly force to defend themselves and their familys. May this fine young Officer rest in peace and, may his family be forever gratetful that he, quite possibly, maybe even certainly, saved them from having unspeakable horrors inflicted upon them.

Remember it for your grandchildren: Saturday, November 21, 2009—the day of the Transformation of America.

That’s the day Global Marxism will begin its inexorable march to take down the Free World, starting with its leader the United States of America.

There will be no shots fired, but the aim of the U.S. Senate’s poison arrow is right on target at the heart of humanity.

While America’s Marxist President is abroad, Senate Majority House Leader Harry Reid is tying the red ribbon bow on his Christmas present, the Transformation, and Take Down of the United States of America.

“Senate Majority House Leader Harry Reid, (D., Nev.) said Thursday that the Senate is poised to act on $848 billion health-care legislation, despite lingering uncertainty over whether he can secure enough support for the bill.” (Dow Jones Newswires, Nov. 19, 2009).

“Reid, appearing with other Senate Democrats at a rally at the Capitol, said the the bill fulfills a goal sought for decades to extend insurance coverage to Americans lacking it.

“We’ve been working to reform health care since the first half of the last century,” Reid said. “We’re now in the home stretch.

“Reid said that a key procedural vote that will allow the Senate to formally move to the legislation will take place Saturday evening If Reid secures 60 votes—the number needed to break a filibuster—the Senate will begin debate on the bill after legislators come back from next week’s Thanksgiving recess.

“But he has not yet secured commitments of support on the vote from central Democrats, including. Sens. Ben Nelson (D., Neb), Mary Landrieu, (D., La) and Blanche Lincoln (D., Ark), who have insisted that they want to review the bill before deciding how to vote. “

Reviewing the bill means wading through its 2,074 pages.

Waiting to enter from stage left after the health bill, is the Cap and Trade Bill and Amnesty.

This is Marxism’s big moment in latter day history and Glenn Beck, crying in the wilderness, is right when he says there is a method to their (Congress’s) madness: Marxism.

“The decision is being made. Are you even in the game?” Beck asked last night on FoxNews.

Unless patriots can find a legal way to stop the Health Bill’s passing, on Saturday, Sunday, November 22, 2009 will mark the first day of the debut of global Marxism, 46 years to the day that President John Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas.

God help America!

A US unmanned drone aircraft has fired several missiles into a Pakistani tribal area bordering Afghanistan, killing at least ten people and injuring several others.

The strike took place in the restive North Waziristan tribal district on Friday.

The death toll is expected to rise as some of the injured were said to be in critical condition. The attack took place in an area where people do not have access to urgent medical assistance.

The US alleges the air strikes, which are common in Pakistan, target pro-Taliban militants in the tribal belt.

However, Pakistani media outlets say only one-sixth of the raids have managed to target militant hideouts.

Hundreds of people have been killed in dozens of strikes from CIA-operated spy drones in the region since early 2008.

The civilian and military authorities in Islamabad publicly oppose the US missile strikes, saying they violate the country's territorial integrity and sovereignty.

This person Singer, forgot his first name, but you all know who i refer too, he is now working and getting well paid, by the fossil fuel companies to try and brainwash the American public, and as far as I can see, he appears to be doing a fairly good job, the American public really are so gullible, that the emissions from the fossil fueled power stations are not harmful to the health of people. When will the first claims start coming in from people with health problems from toxic emissions, and who is going to pay them out??
